Hybrid Bottle + Can Openers
Compact printed tools exploring bottle-cap leverage, can-tab access and a bit of unnecessary visual drama.
What I’m building
These started as contest entries, which creates an interesting tension: the design still has to work, but it also has to look interesting enough to earn a click in a gallery.
The first prints were mechanically clean, but decorative details and overall length exposed places where visual ambition was costing material without necessarily adding function.
What I’ve learned so far
- A contest model still needs to survive being an actual tool.
- Decorative geometry can make a clean CAD render look worse after slicing.
- Ergonomics and leverage should be validated separately from visual presentation.
A good-looking tool still has to work as a tool. Contest geometry does not get a free pass.
What I’m testing now
- Validate bottle-cap engagement with real bottles.
- Clean decorative features that do not align in print.
- Compare a compact functional version with the longer showcase version.
Release status
Prototype only — no download yet. Bottle-cap engagement still needs direct validation before this becomes a public release.
